In preparation for the May beer tasting at Castro’s featuring beers from England, I did a little pre-tasting of my own. This brew is from Lancashire, home of numerous things, including Morris Dancing.
(Sorry for the iPhone pic again. Left DSLR at my mum’s…..)
Beer pours from a 500ml bottle with no freshness date I could find. Dark brown, with a good bit of head that actually totally disappeared, no ring, no lace. Aroma is nicely malty, with a clear hop to it, slightly earthy. Taste is much hoppier, leafy and earthy, with some malty sweetness, and a very interesting finish, with some lingering malt, and also a good tannin-like hop bite. It’s smooth in the mouth, with a light carbonation, and more body then I expected. At a comfortable 4.4%abv, it is a remarkable session beer, not super complicated, but certianly an ale to enjoy a few pints of with good friends in a warm bar.
