Thornbury Premium Apple Cider

If you’ve been buying cider on draught around Toronto, it’s likely you’ve come across Thornbury Premium Apple Cider.  Made in Ontario, Beer Barons has done an excellent job growing Thornbury’s presence in the GTA and beyond.  From Thornbury Ontario, it is made with 100% fresh (not concentrated) Ontario apples.  Let’s do this.

Thornbury Premium Apple Cider

On draught at Castro’s Lounge, Thornbury Premium Apple Cider pours a light yellow with a very active carbonation. Aroma is lightly tart apples, hints of red delicious and perhaps something a touch grassy. Taste is very similar, a little tart but not crazy, more apple pulpiness reminiscent of delicious varietals. A little more grass adds a bit of interest. The body is lighter than some, but still has some weight to it, and it’s huge carbonation keeps it light-feeling on the palate. Finish lingers with a bit of tartness and a tannic dry feeling, again not crazy, but more than one might expect from a widely consumed cider. A very nice example indeed.

Over Ice – aroma is apple-like, though something about it is making me think of fun-dip. Taste actually maintains quite a bit of tartness, though the pleasing hint of grass is gone. Any distinction of the apple is also muted. Still, this cider actually presents fairly well iced. I’m actually a bit surprised.
