Stuff You Need to Know Today – April 27, 2011

Wow, just wow.  Things really got busy there, but I’m still here, still drinking beer.  So to news then:

Babydaddy

Yup, that’s me.  Ben will be a big brother come November, my wife and I are expecting.  Pretty happy, obviously.  The usual updates and pics to follow.

Cask Night at Cameron’s

Tomorrow evening is Cameron’s monthly drink the cask night, and I’m heading out to hang out, drink some beer, and be generally social.  You should come too!

SIPA at Burger Bar

A weekend of rotating taps of IPAs at the Burger Bar.  6 taps and one hand-pump with an insane list of hoppy goodness.  You need to go.  Paul Dickey is launching his new IPA.  If you know beer in Toronto, you know you need to try this.  If you miss it this weekend, fear not, kegs will be arriving at a variety of bars around Toronto (and at least one in London) next week.

St George’s Day Dinner – The Granite Brewpub

A fund raiser for Beer For A Cure, an evening of excellent food paired with locally made English-style ales, and hosted by Nick Pashley.  Tickets are $65 and include a partial donation receipt.

Big Willy and the Middle

Yeah, I’ll admit it: I’m a bit of a monarchy lover.  I blame my Oxford-born grandmother…. Anyways, William and Kate are going to be married on Friday, and I like many others, will wake-up insanely early to see all the pomp and circumstance.  I will also be raising a glass of English ale to them, probably Duchy Originals Ruby Ale.  Follow me on twitter @ChrisSchryer for my opinions and shallow judgements of what people are wearing.  And by the way, the Queen’s hat will be yellow.

Great Lakes News

So Great Lake’s Crazy Canuck Pale Ale should be available at the LCBO any day now.  If you’ve never had it, you need to try it.  A lovely west-coast style PA, it’s just lovely.  Follow them on Facebook and Twitter for updates and availability.  Also, the next Project X will be May 12th.  I haven’t been out in a while, so I’m hoping to get to this one.

Vote!

If you haven’t already, please remember to vote on Monday in our federal election.  I’m not going to suggest who you vote for, but I will encourage you to sit down at some point, possibly with a nice glass of beer, and spend a bit of time on the pages for your local candidates.  Don’t just vote because you’ve always voted one way.  Learn what they’re about and cast your ballot appropriately.  It’s a great excuse to open a beer or two.  Then come down to Castro’s Monday night.  We’ll enjoy the music of Smokey Folk bluegrass, then watch the results come in.  It’s another great excuse to have a beer or two.
