Friday, dust off your boots kids

Well, it’s Friday, and there’s stuff happening.  And you probably should know about it, so you’re not sitting at home, waiting by the phone for a call that’s just not coming.  Whatever that means.

Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face

In case you didn’t know, the next line is “great chieftain o’ the puddin-race!”  I just wanted to point it out, because, really, it’s just awesome.  Yup, it will soon be January 25th, better known as Burns night.  When everyone is Scottish and eats organ meat, jammed into a sheep’s stomach then boiled. I would seriously suggest seeking out a good Burns Dinner for the actual night of.  Poetry, food, whisky and good people.  I’ll probably put together a list of who’s doing what closer to the date, but think about it.  I know the crew at Ceili Cottage throw a massive Burns Supper.  But there’s other stuff happening too.

If I may broach the subject

Cameron’s is hosting a Burns cask night at their brewery in Oakville.  Starting at 6pm on January 31st, there will be beer, food and a live band.  Full details here: http://www.cameronsbrewing.com/save-the-date-robbie-burns-cask-night-at-camerons-jan-31st/

Laser-beam Shark

For the week of January 21st-25th, I’ll be focused, hella tight.  Indeed, it’s the first of my resolved theme weeks, this time, not focusing on beer at all, but rather, on whiskey.  In addition to many reviews, I’ll be covering some decent places to get a dram around Toronto, and I’ll even explain why I’ve spelled the word “whiskey” without an “e” elsewhere in this post.

Something Brewing

I’ve already alluded to this, but we’ve made a date and I’ve arranged for gear, so I guess it’s for realsies.  Me and my friend Mark Murphey are going to start a monthly home-brewing web-show.  It will be released as one of my podcast Thursdays, generally the last Thursday of the month (Mark, if you’re reading this, I just invented that fact, but it sounds good).  The point of the show will be to draw attention to home-brewing, introduce some of the techniques, and encourage regular folks to give it a try.  We will be having guests brew with us, both professional brewers, as well as other home-brewers.  Mark is an accomplished brewer.  Professionally he brews for Molson-Coors at the Toronto brewery; privately he brews in his garage, and does a pretty fine job at it, too.  I know enough about home-brewing to not burn myself (badly) and to stir the mash.  Together, we’re going to change the world.  You know how craft brewing is chipping away at the International Brewers’ margins?  We’re going to do that to the craft brewers.  Soon, even my blog will be obsolete; you will all just be making the beer yourself.

Movin’ On

Well, I’m moving.  Not far, but a) I wanted to warn folks that I might not be “around” as much for the next month, and b) I really wanted to put in the theme from the Littlest Hobo.

Have a safe weekend.  We might be getting patio weather tomorrow; if you can get out and enjoy it!
