Just in for our friends at Beau’s, good news if you’re a fan of big bad ass double IPAs.

“Screamin’ Beaver” biggest beer yet from Beau’s

Oak-aged Double IPA with 9.9% abv. and 99 IBUs is big, bold and delicious

OTTAWA — (May 31, 2011)  Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company is challenging palates of local drinkers yet again this Thursday June 2, with the release of an oak-aged, big hoppy beer called Screamin’ Beaver. Part of the limited-edition Wild Oats series, this specialty brew from Beau’s All Natural will once again be limited to 1000 bottles, available for sale beginning Thursday. Beau’s will celebrate the release with an open house at the brewery this Saturday June 4, with free brewery tours, food and of course, beer.

“Screamin’ Beaver is essentially an amped-up version of our spring seasonal, Beaver River,” explains head brewer Matthew O’Hara. “We made a version of it last year that was pretty tasty, but this time we experimented with a double-mash technique that brought out a big malt character in the beer. We also dry-hopped it, and aged it on oak staves.

“It’s not a cheap way to brew beer,” laughs O’Hara, “but the results were worth it.”

Local beer drinkers are likely to be familiar with Beau’s spring seasonal that inspired the “double” version. The India Pale Ale (IPA) landed on LCBO shelves in March, where it has been warmly received.

“It’s inspiring,” says brewery co-founder Steve Beauchesne. “Beau’s is selling every 600 ml bottle of our Beaver River seasonal we can bottle and pack up each week, and we’re barely keeping up. It makes us want to continue to create new beers and get them out there to people — the demand is so clearly there.”

The limited-edition Screamin’ Beaver is not for the cautious beer drinker. It first breeches the palate with a shot of grapefruit, then gives way to nuanced oak and caramel flavours and warming alcohol mouthfeel. The aroma is dominated by vanilla and pear. Complex and contemplative, this extra-strong ale (9.9 % abv.) is meant to be sipped and savored.

Only 1000 bottles of Wild Oats #3, Screamin’ Beaver will be available directly from brewery, beginning 10 am Thursday June 2. Beau’s will also celebrate its release with a 12-6 pm Open House at the brewery on Saturday, June 4. Ottawa’s Arrow and Loon will be serving up edibles, and complimentary samples of the new double IPA will be available. Guests can also stay and enjoy a glass of Beau’s summer seasonal, FestivAle or the flagship Lug Tread Lagered Ale on the newly opened patio. Fans of Beaver River may also want to stock up on some of the last available bottles until it returns next spring.
