VANKLEEK HILL – (July 28, 2015) A brand-new beer from Beau’s Brewery called Bush Fire will be released Thursday, July 30. The limited-edition release is a 5.8% flame-coloured ale that has been infused with two different organic, fair trade South African teas, rooibos and honeybush.

Bush Fire has initial aromas of earthy rooibos and sweet honeybush, rounded out with spiciness from certified organic Whitbread Golding Variety hops. Similar earthy-sweet flavours are present, with spicy notes and a mild tartness courtesy of organic rosehips and the hops. A bready malt profile helps to balance out the flavours, and a dry finish enhances the spicy and earthy character of the beer.

This aromatic creation brings together two of the world’s most popular brews: tea, and beer. Beau’s resident chef Bruce Wood has conceived some creative food pairings for the beer, based on South African cuisine. His recipe for a traditional meat pie called “bobotie” is available on the Beau’s website (beaus.ca/recipes), and is designed to complement the unique flavours in Bush Fire.

“For me, one of the most fascinating things about cooking is how food crosses cultures,” says Wood. “For example, the bobotie is essentially a shepherd’s pie, but with different flavours. I’ve includes some chutney, raisins and apples in my version, and the curry in the pie works well with the tea flavours in the beer,” he adds.

Beau’s Bush Fire Rooibos-Honeybush beer will be available starting Thursday July 30 from the brewery retail store in Vankleek Hill, or for home delivery in the City of Ottawa through local beer delivery service BYBO. Bush Fire will also be available for a limited time at craft-beer-friendly restaurants and pubs throughout Ontario.
