New Beau’s “Ballot” Pale Ale rewards voting action in Toronto’s Ward 19

(TORONTO – Oct. 16, 2014) Beau’s All Natural Brewery has teamed up with Toronto’s cause-marketing agency PUBLIC Inc. to create an electoral campaign designed to encourage and celebrate young voter turnout in Toronto’s Ward 19 (Trinity-Spadina) for the upcoming municipal elections.

After casting their ballots Oct. 27, voters in this ward will be awarded a token that will gain them entry to one of three local election-night events, where they will receive a complimentary glass of Ballot, a brand-new session pale ale from Beau’s. PUBLIC and Beau’s are hoping that specifically, the reward of a glass of tasty beer will encourage the youngest eligible voters (20-30 year olds) to get out and vote, noting that just 38.8% of Canadians aged 18-24 voted in the 2011 federal election.

“Voting is about being part of your community, and that’s something worth celebrating,” says Beau’s All Natural co-founder Steve Beauchesne. “On October 27, we are encouraging folks to raise their voice, and afterwards we’ll raise a glass and say cheers!”

“While this campaign is fun and light-hearted, the endeavour is serious,” says Phillip Haid, Co-founder & CEO of PUBLIC. “We want to see if we can move the voter numbers and believe we need an incentive to do it. Everyone loves a reward, so why should there be any difference when it comes to civic engagement?”

On October 27, voters in Toronto’s Ward 19 (Trinity-Spadina) can look for Vote for a Party volunteers stationed nearby voting booths, who will be giving out beer caps that serve as entry to a neighbourhood party at a local participating bar (Brazenhead, Opera Bob’s, and The Caledonian) that night. When voters arrive they will receive a glass of Beau’s Ballot Pale Ale, brewed specially for election day, on the house.
