Project X – Great Lakes Brewery – January 12 2012

So Project X is not really a new thing.  Indeed, I’ve talked about it various times on this very blog.  If you don’t know, every month, Great Lakes Brewing Co. hosts an amazing party called Project X.  The idea is, people head down to the brewery to drink awesome great lakes beer, usually including a few one-off or specialty brews, often on cask.  It’s a really great time, and it breaks my heart how often I miss it.  But none more than tonight.

Mike Lacker, king of the oak

That's Mike Lackey, and that's his beard.

You see, tonight, it seems they’re taking this overly warm spring-like weather as an opportunity to do a little spring cleaning.  This list of beers on offer tonight is just off the hook.  Doubt me? Here you go:

  • Karma Stoutra – curry-spiced stout
  • Karma Citra – IPA
  • I saaz her standing There – IPA
  • No Chance With Miranda – saison
  • The Ginga Ninja – saison
  • Same Ol’ Citrasaison
  • Saison du Pump – pumpkin saison
  • Rye did the Chicken? – saison
  • Currently Incarcerated – porter
  • Harry Porter
  • Vanilla Imperial Stout
  • Apocalypse Later – Barley Wine
  • A Waste of Men…..
  • Sour Mash – sour ale
  • Belgian Rouge – Belgian red ale
  • Black Wit – not sure, a dark wit bier?
  • Ernie Wit – Toronto wit bier
  • Jalapeno Ale – pepper beer

See?  How on earth could you consider not being there?  It breaks my heart to miss is.  I can only take solace in the fact I’ve had about 1/3 of those beers.  I’ll cry into my evening tea over the other 2/3.

It is also a noteworthy night, as it’s the launch of that first beer, Karma Stoutra.  Karma Stoutra is the creation of Zach Weinberg, and it was one of the winners of the Toronto Beer Week Homebrew competition.  Zach and Mike Lackey brewed a production batch of it in November, and it’s ready to go.  Get there early, it will go fast.  I got to taste it in judging, and it is quite something.

Okay, so here’s the details:  Project X runs from 6:30-9:30.  It costs $10 to get in, plus a one-time membership fee of $10. The Brewery is located at 30 Queen Elizabeth Blvd. There is parking available, but given this list, I would encourage you even more than usual to share a cab with other folks, or shoot out the Queensway on the TTC and foot it down.  It’s not too bad to access by transit.

Just in case I haven’t quite sold you, here’s sweet Pete himself pumping up the party
